Gustavo Dudamel continues to excite the city of Los Angeles and the entire musical community during his third year directing the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Following a brilliant and successful debut season with the Los Angeles Philharmonic that started in 2009, celebrated young Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel continues his stellar work with the Philharmonic, leading the ensemble as its music director. With Maestro Dudamel on the podium, the famous Walt Disney Concert Hall is sure to continue reverberating with the beautiful and magnificent sounds of world class musicians performing musical works that are both timeless classics and exciting new modern masterpieces.

At only thirty years old, Maestro Dudamel has already accomplished a great deal in his meteoric rise through the classical music stratosphere. Born in Venezuela as the son of a trombonist and vocalist, his roots in music run deep. Starting musical study at the age of ten with the violin and subsequently composition, he studied at the Jacinto Lara Conservatory and the Latin-American Violin Academy. His first musical directorship was in 1999 with the Orquesta Sinfonica Simon Bolivar, the national youth orchestra of Venezuela, and his dedication to connecting youth with the arts through music education remains unwavering.

His success in winning a host of conducting competitions such as the Gustav Mahler Conducting Prize in Germany (2004) and the City of Toronto Glenn Gould Protege Prize only served to increase his reputation and over the last decade, he has conducted the Israel Philharmonic, La Scala Opera Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic Opera, San Francisco Symphony, Gothenburg Symphony, Chicago Symphony and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. He is currently the artistic director of thte Simon Bolivar Youth Symphony, principal conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony in Sweden and, of course, the music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

His most recent accomplishment is being bestowed the "Artist of the Year" award from Gramophone Magazine. This coveted award is voted on by the public worldwide, reflecting Maestro Dudamel's continued success, talent and popularity throughout the classical music world. With the award, he joins the ranks of Joyce DiDonato, Hilary Hahn, Julia Fischer, Yo-Yo Ma and Michael Tilson Thomas.

If you can, take an opportunity to witness and enjoy this dynamic and exciting young musical talent leading one of the world's elite orchestras. There is still plenty of opportunity to experience a live concert performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by this year's Gramophone Artist of the Year. The month of October brings a variety of wonderful programming.

October 6 through 9 will feature an all-Mendelssohn program, with celebrated works the Hebrides Overture, Violin Concerto and the Symphony No. 3 "Scottish." October 13 through 15, Maestro Dudamel and the LA Phil will perform works by Vivier, Bartok and Tchaikovsky. October 20 and 21 will feature two exciting contemporary works, John Adams' Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Chapela's Magnetar, a concerto for electric cello, as well as Prokofiev's Symphony no. 5. The month of October will close with Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 20 and the iconic Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss.
